Theo Arribage and Albano Olivetti are the new doubles champions of Halle. In the final of the 33rd TERRA WORTMANN OPEN, the French pair deservedly defeated the German-Brazilian duo of Daniel Altmeier and Joao Fonseca 7–6, 6–4. Arribage and Olivetti are thus the successors to Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz, who won the doubles tournament in Halle last year.
Arribage and Olivetti won the first-set tie-break 7–2. They had already been the more dominant team during the previous twelve games, but squandered three break points. Arribage and Olivetti then secured the break in the sixth game of the second set to lead 4–2. The pair, who are ranked seventh in the ATP doubles team rankings and are in contention for the Finals in Turin in November, held their own serves securely, sealing their triumph in Halle after 1 hour and 22 minutes.
Together, Arribage and Olivetti have now won the ATP tournaments in Auckland, Montpellier, Dallas and Halle in 2026. They also reached the final in Munich. Previous French doubles winners in Halle were Oliver Delaitre and Guy Forget in 1994, and Fabrice Santoro in 2006 (partnered by the Serbian Nenad Zimonjic).
For Altmaier/Fonseca, their fantastic run in Halle ended with the small winner’s trophy. As lucky losers, they fought their way through to the final. They had lost to Galloway/Peers in the doubles qualifying final last Sunday. However, following the withdrawal of Nick Kyrgios, who was due to play alongside Mattia Bellucci, a place in the main draw became available after all.
Incidentally, Daniel Altmaier was the most prolific player in Halle: the doubles final was his tenth match in nine days, but he will have to wait a little longer for his first victory on the ATP Tour. At least he now has his first final under his belt. “I’m very happy,” he said, reflecting on the week despite the defeat in the final. “I know I can still improve massively, but I’m happy with how things are going.”
