Relaxed Opening Victory

Roger Federer wins in the first round against Aljaz Bedene

It was a confident opener for Roger Federer. The World's No. 1 only needed 1 hour and 11 minutes against GERRY WEBER OPEN debutant Aljaz Bedene to get to the Round of Sixteen. 6:3, 6:4 was the score at the end of the match for the Top-seeded Swiss. On his way to his 10th title he has now reached the Round of Sixteen.

From the beginning Federers' opponent, the World's No. 72 didn't stand a chance. In the first set he startet swiftly. The first three match points were not used by the Swiss. Bedene tried to keep up as well as he could, before Federer used his fifth break point to lead 3:0. "I was able to dominate the match with my serves", Federer said about his service. The debutant in Halle-Debutant was able to get into the match better during the first set. He got more confident with his own service. And he also tried to bother the record-holding champion in Halle a little in his service, too.  But wasn't able to break once in the whole of the game. The World's No. 1 wasn't irritated though, carried on playing his speed superiorly and won the first set after minutes 6:3.

In the second set, too, Bedene was much safer with his own service against the 20-times Grand Slam winner. Only in the eighth game Federer was able to get the break to make it 5:4. Now the Swiss wasn't playing around any more and after 1 hour and 11 minutes he won the match with the spectators applauding loudly at the GERRY WEBER Stadion.

In the Round of Sixteen the Frenchman Benoit Paire awaits the title defender Roger Federer. But before that, the Swiss, who just last Sunday won the Finals in Stuttgart,  is looking forward to having a day off: "I am glad to have a break tomorrow".
