“Super Tuesday” at the ATP 500 Tournament in HalleWestfalen

Roger Federer, four German tennis aces, title-defender Borna Coric and French Open Kings Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies in action

Record-holding champion Roger Federer, four German tennis aces, the new French Open Doubles champions Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies and title-defender Borna Coric are in action: The second day of the main field at the 27th NOVENTI OPEN will be a “Super Tuesday”. “This will be one of the most intensive and exciting tournament days in years”, tournament director Ralf Weber says. The special clou is the appearance of our two winners from Paris on the Centre Court in the last match of the day.

The “Match of the Day“ will be played by nine-times tournament winner Roger Federer (ATP 3) against Australian John Millman (ATP 57) on the Centre Court, not before 5.30 pm. The score between the between the Swiss “Maestro” and challenger Millman is 1:1, Millman had caused a sensation in the round of 16 in the US Open 2018 by defeating Federer. Local-hero Jan-Lennard Struff starts the day at 12.00 noon against Serbe-player Laslo Djere (ATP 27) at the GERRY WEBER STADION. After reaching the semi-finals in Stuttart Struff is on his all-time-high in the ATP-ranking at no. 35 on Monday. Struff wants to go for his first-ever win on homeland, the conditions are as good as never before – for the 1,96 metre-giant is playing his best season ever.

And on Court 1, too, the programme has a quite German approach on “Super Tuesday”.  At 12.00 noon the Wild Card-starter Peter Gojowczyk (ATP 121) takes on Frenchman Richard Gasquet (ATP 54), then follows an exciting duel between top-talented Rudi Molleker (ATP 152) and qualifier Sergiy Stakhovsky (ATP 123). Qualifier Mats Moraing (ATP 223) fights for a place in the round of 16 against former tournament finalist Andreas Seppi (ATP 69) on Court 2.

The programme at the GERRY WEBER STADION in on Grand Slam level: The second match will be played by surprise winner of last year, Croatian Borna Coric (ATP 14) against Jaume Munar (ATP 88) from Spain. Then follows a cracker between Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (ATP 77) and Benoit Paire (ATP 28). And last but not least another appetiser is the doubles fight between Krawietz and Mies and the first-time doubles-players Dustin Brown and Tim Pütz.

On “Super Tuesday” both finalists from last year are in action: 2018-Champion Borna Coric and Roger Federer, who then was defeated in his bid for the 10th title. Federer plays Australian John Millman in his opener, Coric against Jaume Munar from Spain. © NOVENTI OPEN/HalleWestfalen
