In 2018 and 2023, Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut reached the semi-finals of the TERRA WORTMANN OPEN on both occasions. When qualifying for the 2026 edition begins on Saturday, the 38-year-old, currently ranked 116th in the ATP world rankings, will first have to compete for a place in the main draw. The former world number nine will face Benito Sanchez Martinez. The German (ATP 1113) is taking part in the qualifiers thanks to a wildcard.
The 18-year-old German Diego Dedura (ATP 262) has also been awarded a wildcard; he will play Nikoloz Basilashvili from Georgia in the first round of qualifying. Dedura, whose mother is from Lithuania and whose father is from Chile, grew up in Berlin. He was the first player born in 2008 to compete in a match on the ATP Tour and drew attention to his great potential at an early age. In Munich, he underlined his talent with a courageous and committed performance against Flavio Cobolli. Although he was defeated by the Italian, he left a strong impression.
The third German with a qualifying wildcard is Jamie Mackenzie (ATP 913). The 18-year-old won the junior doubles title at the French Open last weekend alongside Vincent Jakob Reisach. In Halle, Mackenzie will face Alex Bolt from Australia in the qualifying semi-finals.
The fourth German in the line-up is 22-year-old Tom Gentzsch (ATP 229), who made his Grand Slam debut at the French Open and played his first match on grass in Stuttgart. His opponent on Saturday: Tiago Pereira (ATP 306) from Portugal.
Raphael Collignon from Belgium is seeded number one in the qualifiers. The world number 51 will face Aziz Dougaz (ATP 657) from Tunisia. The number two seed, Martin Landaluce from Spain, takes on Marc-Andrea Huesler from Switzerland. The number three seed in the qualifiers is Lorenzo Sonego from Italy, who will play against the Romanian Filip Cristian Jianu. The number four seed, Mattia Bellucci from Italy, faces Mikhail Kukushkin from Kazakhstan. The eight winners of the first qualifying round will play in four finals on Sunday for one of the coveted places in the main draw.
The doubles qualifying rounds also begin on Saturday. And the two semi-final pairings are certainly impressive. Germany’s Daniel Altmaier, paired with rising star Joao Fonseca from Brazil, will face the Czech-Austrian duo of Petr Nouza and Neil Oberleitner. The second match will see Sander Arens and David Pel (both from the Netherlands) take on Robert Galloway (USA)/John Peers (Australia). Peers won the 2023 TERRA WORTMANN OPEN alongside Marcelo Melo. Only the winning pair from the doubles qualifying round will ultimately make it into the main draw.
