Alexander Bublik has won the TERRA WORTMANN OPEN for the second time. In an entertaining and high-class final, the 27-year-old defeated Daniil Medvedev 6:3, 7:6(4). In the tie-break of the second set, the Kazakh won six points in a row and converted his first match point to clinch the long-awaited triumph. While frenetic cheering broke out on Centre Court, the celebrated winner sank to the ground, overwhelmed.
"This is a very special place for me", said Bublik at the award ceremony afterwards. "I've won here twice now and I'm looking forward to many more years." Medvedev was also delighted with a successful week and congratulated the winner fairly, before they both gave each other champagne showers.
Right from the start, the world number 43, who is always up for a spectacular display, had put in an outstanding performance. Bublik did not have to surrender his serve once throughout the entire match. Instead, he managed the decisive break himself in a swift first set. With a powerful backhand shot down the line, he converted to make it 5:3. Moments later, he converted with an ace through the middle to take the set.
There were many entertaining rallies in the second set, but there were hardly any opportunities for the players to break. In the end, a tie-break was needed to decide the outcome. Medvedev took a 4:1 lead after a double fault by Bublik, but was then unable to win another point.
It is Bublik's second title in Halle since 2023 and his fifth career title. He had already celebrated in the OWL Arena in 2023, when he defeated Andrey Rublev in three sets. Daniil Medvedev also retained his silver medal in the second final of the TERRA WORTMANN OPEN. In 2022, he was defeated by Hubert Hurkacz in the final.
