Double triumph for Krawietz/Pütz

The German top duo successfully takes revenge for last year's defeat against Bolelli/Vavassori

The revenge has been successful, the first title win at the TERRA WORTMANN OPEN has been bagged: Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz are the doubles champions of 2025, defeating the Italian defending champions Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori 6:3 and 7:6 in the final. ‘KraPü’ are the first all-German doubles winners in Halle since 2009, when Christopher Kas and Philipp Kohlschreiber took the crown. Michael Stich and Karsten Braasch won the doubles competition in 1997. The previous year, Bolelli/Vavassori had won 7:6, 7:6 against Krawietz/Pütz.

At a hot 36 degrees in the shade, 33-year-old Kevin Krawietz and 37-year-old Tim Pütz got off to a good start. On the other hand, 39-year-old Simone Bolelli had problems with his service, and he and his 30-year-old partner Andrea Vavassori had to fend off two break points in the very first service game. When it was Bolelli's turn the second time, the number one seeds from Coburg and Frankfurt managed to break for 4:2 and KraPü clinched the set 6:3 on their third set point.

In set two, the servers dominated, with Pütz only having to save a set point when the Italian number two seed was leading 5:4. It went into a tie-break, in which Krawietz and Pütz were able to open up a two-point lead for the first time at 5:3. Krawietz had forced the point with a powerful game. When Pütz hit a strong passing shot to make it 6:4, the Germans had two match points. Service by Pütz, volley by Krawietz - the triumph in Halle at the 32nd TERRA WORTMANN OPEN was a reality.

After the match, Kevin Krawietz gave the crowd a share in the success. "How awesome is the atmosphere? I would say it's the best stadium in the world for us doubles players," he said. And Krawietz also thanked his partner Pütz: ‘Thank you for your returns today, that was excellent.’

Kevin Krawietz has now won two titles in Halle, having already triumphed in 2021 together with Romanian Horia Tecau. This is Tim Pütz's first title win in Halle, having lost in the final with Krawietz in 2024 and New Zealander Michael Venus in 2022.

It is the first title for the top German doubles pairing this year - following defeats in the finals in Munich and Adelaide (against Bolelli/Vavassori). In 2024, ‘KraPü’ won the ATP Finals (their greatest joint success to date) and in Hamburg. Krawietz is also a two-time winner of a Grand Slam tournament (2019 and 2020 together with Andreas Mies at Roland Garros).
