He’s done it again

Roberto Bautista Agut is through to the quarterfinals at the tournament in Halle

Roberto Bautista Agut went through to the quarterfinals with a 6:7(6), 6:4, 6:2 -win against qualifier Tallon Griekspoor. That he can play on grass is already common knowledge. The 34-year-old Spanish player is in the quarterfinals at Halle for the fourth time, in 2018 he also reached the semi-finals. Roberto Bautista Agut had also once reached the best of four at the most important tennis tournaments of the world; in Wimbledon 2019.

In a very balanced match Tallon Griekspoor got advantages time and time again, but Roberto Bautista Agut didn’t let it be and counterattacked again and again. After getting a break, he got a re-break straight away. And, when the 25-year-old from the Netherlands was in the lead in the tiebreak 5:2 and the Spanish player went in the lead 6:5. He couldn’t convert this set point, though, and, then the hour of Tallon Griekspoor struck again, he converted his first set point to make it 8:6.

Roberto Bautista Agut didn’t let his head hang down, we went back to work fully concentrated and got a break in the first game of the second round. Tallon Griekspoor was to follow his lead until the end of the match. At 5:4 the Spanish player converted his first set point to make it 6:4 – third set.

Roberto Bautista Agut stayed cool, just like when he lost the first set, when he had to fend off four break points in his first service in the deciding round. And, after that, he hit mercilessly. His first break point was on the spot - 3:2. The resistance of the man from the Netherlands was broken. After just under two hours the final score was 6:7(6), 6:4, 6:2.
