Gasquet first through to the Quarterfinal

Frenchman is confident winner over Bernard Tomic

Against a lively Richard Gasquet Bernard Tomic was without chance at the Round of 16 of the GERRY WEBER OPEN. After 57 minutes the Frenchman dealt with the Australian in short time and ended  6:3, 6:3, even though he had taken some time out inbetween.

Richard Gasquet startet made to measure. Bernard Tomic served, the Frenchman was able to break with the first break point. After that Gasquet, who turned 31 three days ago, served impressively. The Australian didn't get anywhere near a break point during the first set. Therefore the Frenchman had another break point at 5:3, which meant the first set point. And this he used confidently.

While Tomic had not even got to grips with losing the set, Gasquet when on playing concentrated tennis. Service win, break and another service win - it can go as quick as that - 3:0 for the Frenchman. But then the 31 year-old seemed to take time out. The Australian could win eleven points in a row, not only had he got the re-break, he had balanced to 3:3. But who now thought that Tomic was rising again, was cheated on. Without being impressed by these three lost games, Gasquet played on solidly and could claim the match shortly afterwards. After only 57 minutes playing time he converted his third match point to 6:3, 6:3.

Richard Gasquet is showing a form fit for a candidate going for the title. He already reached the semis at the GERRY WEBER OPEN in 2013. Another win and he will have reached that round again. Next opponant will either be Dominic Thiem (Austria), set on second position or Robin Haase (Netherlands).
