A full house at the schauinsland-reisen Court. The reason: Alexander Zverev was in attendance. Teaming up with his Brazilian doubles partner and friend Marcelo Melo, Germany’s number one took on the pairing of Zizou Bergs (Belgium) and Alexander Bublik (Kazakhstan) in the first round of the 33rd TERRA WORTMANN OPEN. And the cheers from the 3,500 fans knew no bounds: Zverev/Melo won a thrilling and close match 6-4, 6-7(4) and 10-5 in the match tie-break. So fans can look forward to further appearances by the German tennis star and his Brazilian mate in the doubles.
Incidentally, Melo has already won the doubles tournament in Halle three times. Most recently in 2023 alongside John Peers. In 2017 and 2018, he triumphed alongside Lukasz Kubot – twice in the final against brothers Alexander and Mischa Zverev.
Jakob Schnaitter and Mark Wallner were the first doubles pair to reach the quarter-finals. The two German players defeated the Argentine-Serbian pairing of Tomas Martin Etcheverry and Miomir Kecmanovic 7-6, 6-3. The first set was a real struggle for Schnaitter and Wallner. After a break, Etcheverry/Kecmanovic led 5-2, but the pair from Wasserburg and Munich fought back to break back and forced a tie-break. The German pair quickly took a 5-1 lead and ultimately won the deciding game comfortably 7-4. In the second set, Schnaitter/Wallner broke to make it 4-2 and took the set 6-3.
