Jannik Sinner starts against Hanfmann

Alexander Zverev faces tough opening test against American Marcos Giron at the 32nd TERRA WORTMANN OPEN

Defending champion Jannik Sinner (ATP 1) will first have to deal with german qualifier Yannick Hanfmann at the start of the 32nd TERRA WORTMANN. And his nominally toughest rival in the cup race, Germany's ace Alexander Zverev (ATP 3), has the challenging task of facing the American Marcos Giron (ATP 44) in the first round. This was the result of the draw for the ATP 500 grass court classic on Saturday afternoon by last year's doubles winners, Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori. "Sascha Zverev has a real test ahead of him. It will be a very exciting match," said tournament director Ralf Weber. Giron had beaten Andrej Rublev (then ATP 6, now ATP 15) and the former Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini (Italy) at last year's TERRA WORTMANN OPEN on his way to the quarter-finals and then lost to the eventual finalist Hubert Hurkacz.

Former No. 1 Daniil Medvedev (ATP 11) will face the in-form German challenger Daniel Altmaier (ATP 51) in another first-round clash. Altmaier recently impressed at the French Open by reaching the round of 16. Local hero Jan-Lennard Struff (ATP 103), who is starting in the main draw with a wild card, will play the Italian Lorenzo Sonego (ATP 45) in the starting round. If Zverev and Struff win their opening matches, the two German Davis Cup mates will meet in the round of 16.

Number one player Sinner has a similarly tough road ahead of him as last year, when he had to go the full distance three times in the early stages of the German grass court highlight. In the second round, the 23-year-old South Tyrolean could face the unpredictable Kazakh Alexander Bublik, the winner of the tournament in 2023. Bublik will face the Frenchman Alexandre Muller (ATP 40) in round one. In the quarter-finals, Sinner could face a repeat of last year's final against Poland's Hubert Hurkacz (ATP 32).

The first round showdown between the 18-year-old Brazilian top talent Joao Fonseca (ATP 57) and the winner of this year's ATP tournament in Hamburg, the Italian Flavio Cobolli (ATP 25), is also one of the exciting duels at the 32nd TERRA WORTMANN OPEN. Greece's tennis ace Stefanos Tsitsipas (ATP 26) will face Italy's Luciano Darderi (ATP 48) in the opening round. Tsitsipas recently announced the spectacular appointment of Goran Ivanisevic as his coach.
