Borna Coric reaches the Quarter-Finals at the GERRY WEBER OPEN for the first time. The Croatian had surprised by winning against the No. 2 seeded Alexander Zverev and thus getting to the second round. There he now won 6:4, 6:2 against Nikoloz Basilashvili.
As in the match against Zverev Coric he played powerfully from the start and was the more aggressive player. Especially from the baseline the World's No. 34 dominated the rallies. Basilashvili, who had got to the Main Field as Lucky Loser because Gojowczyk had pulled out due to injury, had problems with his service. Much too often he had to go into second service, which the Croatian returned strongly. In the third game of the first round Coric got the deciding break to bring it to 2:1. The 21 year old Croatians' service was constantly strong and didn't allow a break in the whole of the match. After 39 minutes he won the first round.
Basilashvili made too many easy mistakes today and didn't get into the match at all. The second set, too, startet badly for the No. 85 from Georgia. In his first service he got a break. Basilashvili profited from his opponents' carelessness, who gamed away four break points to 3-0. The Croatian wasn't bothered, though. He won the break 5:2, as well as the next service. After 79 minutes he decided the match with an ace.
In the Quarter-Finals Borna Coric will now meet Andreas Seppi from Italy.
