The Italian top doubles pairing of Simone Bolelli (38) and Andrea Vavassori (29) have reached the semi-finals of the 31st TERRA WORTMANN OPEN. Their opponents there: the German duo Yannick Hanfmann and Dominik Koepfer. Bolelli/Vavassori won their quarter-final against the Kazakh-French duo Alexander Bublik and Arthur Fils with relative ease, 6:4, 6:3.
The Italians, who are seeded number one in Halle and ranked second in the ATP Doubles Race, were the better team right from the start and created many break chances. However, they only took the service from Bublik in the seventh game. Bolelli/Vavassori fended off a direct chance to break back and took set one 6:4.
In set two, it was again Bublik who was unable to get his serve through - 2:1 for Italy. The Southern Europeans held their service and led 4:3, but Bublik/Fils suddenly turned on the heat. They took the Italians' good shots and their own bad ones in their stride - exactly the right tactic. They hit the balls and had four break chances. But Vavassori served strongly - 5:3. In the end, Fils was unable to bring home his service - 6:3. Semi-final for Bolelli/Vavassori.
The German top 10 doubles pairing of Kevin Krawietz/Tim Pütz is also in the semi-final. The pair from Coburg and Frankfurt defeated the German up-and-coming duo Constantin Frantzen and Hendrik Jebens, who had entered the doubles main draw of the 31st TERRA WORTMANN OPEN via wildcard, 7:6 and 6:4. There was not a single break in the first set, and Krawietz/Pütz, seeded second in Halle, won the tie-break 7:3. In the second set, the pair got the only break of the match in the ninth game to make it 5:4 and secured the round and thus the match 6:4.
