Alexander Zverev is aiming for the title

Dominic Thiem stays without a chance against the German and loses 3:6, 4:6

Only the colour of their socks was different when it came down to their outfit; Alexander Zverev’s white, Dominic Thiem’s black. Their current performances, on the other hand, were quite different. The man from Austria, who had defeated Alexander Zverev in the finals of the US Open 2020, could only counteract at the beginning of the first set. In the end, the German was just too strong for Dominic Thiem. Alexander Zverev decided the match clearly 6:3, 6:4.

Dominic Thiem was able to keep up well up to 2:2 in the first set, he even had a chance to break at 1:1, couldn’t use it, though. And then the Lion, Alexander Zverev’s nickname, began to demonstrate his immense power. The German decided 12 of the next 13 rallies to make it 5:2. He converted his second set point after 31 minutes to make it 6:3.

The second round of the match went ahead quite balanced at first, too. Alexander Zverev already had a chance to break in the third game, he couldn’t use it though. He achieved this at a score of 4:4. The fourth break point fitted, he speeded up again. He then got his service through without losing a point making it 6:3, 6:4.

Alexander Zverev was obviously satisfied after the match: “I was my first match on grass for two years that was not so easy for me. Furthermore, I have played Dominic very often, am friends with him. It worked out very well, though. I am so happy to play on this Center Court and want to play some more on this court.“
