Tournament Director Ralf Weber has welcomed Germany's tennis star Alexander Zverev (28/ATP 3) to the 32nd TERRA WORTMANN OPEN. Zverev had travelled directly to Halle on Sunday evening after his defeat in the final in Stuttgart. ‘I wish Sascha all the best for his start with us,’ said Weber, ‘maybe he will make up for his first tournament win on grass here.’
The TERRA WORTMANN OPEN is also traditionally a meeting place for the extended Zverev family, including close relatives. ‘We all always feel incredibly comfortable here - and I can relax a bit on the golf course as well as on the court,’ says Zverev.
Zverev is making his ninth attempt to win the title ten years after his debut in Halle-Westphalia. He reached the final twice early on in his career, losing to Roger Federer in 2016 and compatriot Florian Mayer in 2017. He last reached the semi-finals in 2023 and 2024. Incidentally, he was beaten by the feared hammer server Ivo Karlovic in the round of 16 on his debut in 2015, with the Croatian service specialist conjuring up no fewer than 21 aces against the then 18-year-old Zverev. ‘I will keep trying to win this important title here in Halle,’ said Zverev.
