Russia’s new tennis star Karen Khachanov is awarded “Top Ten-Award” by ATP

“As a child, you always dream of getting to the top. This is a big milestone in my carrier.”

HalleWestfalen. The player’s organization ATP has awarded Russia’s new tennis star Karen Khachanov (ATP 9) the “Top Ten-Award” at the 27th NOVENTI OPEN. Tour-Manager Konstantin Haerle and tournament director Ralf Weber presented the award to the 23-year-old at the GERRY WEBER SPORTPARK HOTEL on Thursday.

“This a great reminder of a truly wonderful moment, one of the greatest milestones in my carrier so far. As a child, you always dream about getting to the top. It is also the payment for lots of hard work that has been invested in your sports” Khacharov said. “I am especially glad about getting this award in Halle. For I really like this tournament.”

The Moscow-born had broken through the sound barrier into the Top Ten after the French Open, deadline June 10th, 2019. He had reached the quarter-finals in Paris, before being defeated by later finalist Dominic Thiem. Khachanov will play Italian Matteo Berrettini (ATP 22) at the ATP 500-competition in HalleWestfalen on Friday.

ATP World Champion Alexander Zverev had already been awarded the “Top Ten-Award” in HalleWestfalen two years ago. Back then, the title victory of the ATP 1000-Tournament in Rom against Novak Djokovic had led to Zverev reaching the elite group of the best ten tennis players in the world.
