Bolelli/Vavassori in the role of favorites

Eight German players compete in the doubles competition of the 31st TERRA WORTMANN OPEN

If you want to support German tennis players, the doubles competition at the 31st TERRA WORTMANN OPEN is the place to be. First and foremost is the number two seeded duo Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz. This year, the two want to achieve something together in Halle, as they already have experience in the final separately. Pütz and New Zealander Michael Venus lost to Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos in the 2022 final. Krawietz, on the other hand, already has a winner's trophy in his display case at home. In 2021, he won with Romanian Horia Tecau at his side against Felix Auger-Aliassime and Hubert Hurkacz.

Also competing from a German perspective: German number one singles player Alexander Zverev, who will team up with Andrey Rublev. Jan-Lennard Struff will team up with Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor. Purely German combinations are Yannick Hanfmann and Dominik Koepfer as well as Constantin Frantzen and Hendrik Jebens. The latter two doubles have received a wild card. Frantzen/Jebens are causing a sensation this year and reached the semi-finals in Stuttgart last week.

However, the favorites to win the tournament at the 31st TERRA WORTMANN OPEN are others. The Italians Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori are seeded number one. The pair recently reached the final at the French Open, but lost 5:7 and 3:6 to the duo Marcelo Arevalo (El Salvador) and Mate Pavic (Croatia) in Paris. Bolelli/Vavassori already had one hand on the winner's trophy at the 30th TERRA WORTMANN OPEN in 2023, but had to leave Halle with the small trophy after narrowly losing the final to Marcelo Melo and John Peers (6:7, 6:3, 6:10). Next attempt in 2024: In the first round, the Italians will face the doubles team of Tallon Griekspoor and Jan-Lennard Struff. A first test against two good grass court players.

Nathaniel Lammons and Jackson Withrow are seeded third in the doubles competition. The Americans won the final against Wesley Koolhof and Nikola Mektic at the ATP tournament in s'-Hertogenbosch on Saturday. The number four in Halle is the Monegasque-Polish duo Hugo Nys and Jan Zielinski. The pair won the ATP tournament in Acapulco this year. The extended group of favorites also includes Belgians Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen, Frenchmen Sadio Doumbia and Fabien Reboul and the combination of Jean-Julien Rojer and Lloyd Glasspool (Great Britain). The 42-year-old Dutchman Rojer already has one title to his name in Halle: in 2012, he won the doubles together with Pakistan's Aisam-ul-Hag Qureshi.
