Bolelli/Vavassori in the doubles-finals

The Italians defeated Mies/Demoliner in three tight sets – Otte/Struff in the semi-finals on Saturday

Well, that was tight – and exciting! The German-Brazilian doubles players Andreas Mies and Marcelo Demoliner only just lost the semi-finals at the 30. TERRA WORTMANN OPEN. They were defeated by the Italians Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori 3:6, 7:6(0) and 7:10.

Demoliner and Mies fought like lions to get back into the match after losing the first round. They were behind 1:3 already but they managed a re-break, were nearly in reach of a further break, had to go into the tiebreak, though in the second set.  And the tiebreak was extraordinary. Mies and Demoliner hit the shots and just like that won 7:0! The decision had to be made in the match tiebreak and it was very even there for a long time. Then the Italians briefly increased the pace and went into the lead 9:7. The Italian duo used the first match point when Avassori was serving to move into the finals.

From a German point of view there was a lot of cause for cheering on the Tennis-Point Court in the doubles quarter finals. Even though Alexander Zverev was playing on the Centre Court at the same time, lots of fans had come to the second largest court at the OWL Arena to support Oscar Otte and Jan-Lennard Struff. And the fans weren’t disappointed. The two Germans showed a convincing performance against the favourites and no. one-seeded duo Marcelo Arevalo (El Salvador) and Jean-Julien Rojer (The Netherlands) and won 6:4, 5:7 und 10:7.

In the match tiebreak Otte/Struff did an in-between sprint at 6:6 to make it 9:6 – match points were what followed. Arevalo/Rojer fended off the first one but then the two spectator’s favourites in Halle booked their place in the doubles semi-finals at the 30. TERRA WORTMANN OPEN. Then Marcelo Melo (Brazil) and John Peers (Australia) await them, this time on the Centre Court (as third match of the day).
