Bublik cruises into round two

The 2023 tournament winner defeats Frenchman Muller in two sets

Alexander Bublik is in good form: At the start of his grass court season, the Kazakh, who won the TERRA WORTMANN OPEN in 2023, defeated Frenchman Alexandre Muller 6:4 and 6:4 without any major problems. Bublik, who was only stopped by Jannik Sinner in the quarter-finals at the French Open a fortnight ago, extended his record in Halle to 7:1 victories. Muller, ranked five places higher than Bublik in the world rankings at 40th, has to pack his bags again after losing on his main draw debut in Halle.

The first set was an even affair for a long time, Alexander Bublik broke his opponent in the ninth game and winning the set on his own service was a formality. In the second set, the Kazakh quickly broke for 1:0 and then concentrated on his serve. And it came. He won his service to 30, to 15, to 15, to 15 and once again to 15, Bublik mastered his first task at the 32nd TERRA WORTMANN OPEN in exactly one hour.

His next opponent will certainly be another big challenge. Bublik will play the winner of the match between Jannik Sinner and Yannick Hanfmann in the round of 16. Will there be a rematch with the Italian? Incidentally, the score is even on grass: 1:1. Bublik won in Halle two years ago, Sinner won in s-Hertogenbosch.
