Yannick Hanfmann and Dominik Koepfer are the first doubles pair to reach the semi-finals of the 31st TERRA WORTMANN OPEN. The German duo won their quarter-final match against the fourth-seeded combination of Hugo Nys (Monaco) and Jan Zielinski (Poland) 7:6, 3:6 and 10:8 in a match tie-break. Hanfmann and Koepfer, who have already been eliminated in the singles, can now concentrate fully on the doubles and are still in the running for the tournament triumph. It would be the first success for an all-German duo since 2009 (Christopher Kas and Philipp Kohlschreiber).
Competition for Hanfmann/Koepfer comes from Germany - namely from top doubles pair Kevin Krawietz/Tim Pütz. The number eight in the ATP Doubles Races won 7:6 and 6:3 against Lloyd Glasspool (Great Britain) and Jean-Julien Rojer (Netherlands), but Krawietz/Pütz still have some work to do as they are only in the quarter-finals.
The two stars Jannik Sinner from Italy and Hubert Hurkacz from Poland got off to a good start in the doubles competition of the 31st TERRA WORTMANN OPEN. However, the numbers 1 and 9 in the singles world rankings had to fight hard to beat the Americans Nathaniel Lammons and Jackson Withrow 6:4, 5:7 and 11:9.
The top-seeded Italians Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori reached the quarter-finals without any major problems. The tournament favorites won 6:3 and 6:3 in an hour against the lucky losers Pedro Martinez (Spain) and Aleksandr Nedovyesov (Kazakhstan). Martinez/Nedovyesov, who lost in the qualifying final, had slipped into the main draw for the doubles team of Jan-Lennard Struff/Tallon Griekspoor, who had withdrawn due to illness. Bolelli/Vavassori will now play Alexander Bublik and Arthur Fils for a place in the semi-finals.
Also in the quarter-finals: France's Sadio Doumbia and Fabien Reboul. They beat Belgium's Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen 7:6 and 6:4. The German shooting stars Constantin Frantzen and Hendrik Jebens, who made it into the main draw of the 31st TERRA WORTMANN OPEN via a wildcard, have also reached the last eight doubles round. They won the match against Yuki Bhambri (India) and Albano Olivetti (France), which was interrupted on Tuesday, 5:7, 7:6 and 10:7. Their next opponents: Krawietz/Pütz.
