Krawietz/Mies in the Quarterfinals

6:7, 6:3 and 10:8 in the German duel against Altmaier/Otte

The mission title defence is underway. Kevin Krawietz has reached the quarterfinals together with his partner Andreas Mies at the 29. TERRA WORTMANN OPEN. In the all-German duel the French-Open-Champions of 2019 and 2020 defeated Daniel Altmaier and Oscar Otte 6:7, 6:3 and 10:8 in the match tiebreak. It is only Krawietz, though, who can defend a title because the man from Coburg won the doubles title with Rumanian player Horia Tecau in Halle. They won in the finals against Felix Auger-Aliassime/Hubert Hurkacz back then. His partner Mies was injured for a long time in 2021.

The round-of-16 was tough for Krawietz/Mies. There was also quite a fun factor, though, in the duel amongst friends. Mies and Otte, for example, after a great volley by Mies, high fived, muchly cheered on by the crowd.

All players got their service through three times respectively, the tiebreak was the decider. With the score at 8:6 Altmaier/Otte secured this round, fending off a set point. And the second set was also very balanced for a long period, up until Otte lost his service 3:5. Krawietz/Mies were already in the lead in the match tiebreak 6:2, but their competitors came back. At 10:8 the favourites to win the match brought it home.  Krawietz/Mies will now play Tim Pütz/Michael Venus on Thursday to reach the semi-finals. The German-New Zealand double partners won against Simone Bolelli (Italien) and Matwe Middelkoop (Netherlands) 7:6 und 6:4.

The number one seeded players Marcel Granollers (Spain) and Horacio Zeballos (Argentina) will face duo Santiago Gonzalez/Andrea Molteni. Granollers/Zeballos won against Lucky-Losers Tallon Griekspoor/Alex Molcan. It had been the third opponent to be announced to play the favourites on Tuesday. Both other duos had had to pull out. Also in the quarterfinals: Yannick Hanfmann and Jan-Lennard Struff against Marcelo Arevalo (El Salvador) and Jean-Julien Rojer (Netherlands).
