The 32nd TERRA WORTMANN OPEN, the ATP 500 grass court tournament in the OWL ARENA, which will take place from 14 to 22 June 2025, is delighted to announce that Brazilian young talent João Fonseca and crowd favourite Jan-Lennard Struff have been awarded wildcards for the main draw. The four promising German players, Daniel Altmaier, Justin Engel, Patrick Zahraj and Max Schönhaus, will also be awarded wildcards for the singles main draw and qualifying.
German tennis player Daniel Altmaier, known for his impressive performances on the ATP Tour, will therefore have the chance to compete directly in the main draw and fight for the coveted title.
"We are delighted to welcome Daniel Altmaier to the TERRA WORTMANN OPEN. His participation enriches the field of participants and promises exciting matches for our spectators," said Tournament Director Ralf Weber.
The 17-year-old Justin Engel (ATP rank 281) recently became a ‘rising star’ with his first ATP Tour success on grass at the Stuttgart tournament. This wildcard gives him the opportunity to make his debut at the highest level at the ATP 500 event in Halle - an important stage in his rapid development.
Patrick Zahraj, currently ATP ranked 275 in singles, recently gained valuable experience in doubles when he made his debut at ATP Tour level in Hamburg. Being favoured with a wildcard in the singles qualifiers underlines the tournament management's confidence in Zahraj's steady progress and his potential on the grass. He will also compete in the doubles qualifying together with Grand Slam winner Andreas Mies with the support of a wild card.
Max Schönhaus, the 17-year-old junior star presented himself on the international stage: winner of the Junior Doubles Wimbledon 2024 and finalist of the Junior French Open 2025. With this wildcard for the main draw, Schönhaus will make his debut at ATP 500 level for the first time - a special step in his promising career.
Tournament Director Ralf Weber emphasises: ‘With the wildcards for Justin Engel, Patrick Zahraj and Max Schönhaus, we are sending out a strong signal - we are promoting young talents from Germany and giving them a chance on our prestigious grass court stage.’ The awarding of the wildcards to Engel, Zahraj and Schönhaus reflects the vision of the tournament organisers: a mixture of youthful dynamism and national promotion. Fans can look forward to thrilling matches between young German talents - an additional highlight in an already high-calibre tournament week.
