Tallon Griekspoor stays unbeaten on Grass 2023

Without a doubt: Tallon Griekspoor is in top form. After his tournament victory in ‘s-Hertogenbosch in the previous week, the 26 year-old player from The Netherlands trumped up also at the TERRA WORTMANN OPEN in Halle. He defeated the title-defender Hubert Hurkacz 6:3, 1:6, 7:6(8). He now challenges the no. three-seeded Andrey Rublev in the quarter finals.

The grass season is going really well for Tallon Griekspoor so far; seven matches, seven victories. The man from The Netherlands was also not to be stopped against Hubert Hurkacz. After a balanced start he got the first break of the match at 4:3, winning then his service solidly 6:3 after exactly half an hour.

Tallon Griekspoor then seemed to take some timeout. The second set went 6:1 to Hubert Hurkacz after exactly half an hour, too. The Polish player took his chances consequently. The player from the Netherlands, on the other hand, made too many mistakes.

Thus the cards were newly shuffled. The two played safe at the beginning of the deciding set. Then they became braver. Above all, Tallon Griekspoor took charge of the match, was able to get a break, even though he was nearer to one than Hubert Hurkacz. The tiebreak had to decide. There, too, the man from the Netherlands set the tone. At 6:3 he wasn’t yet able to use match points one to three. And the fourth one, too, didn’t fit. And suddenly, Hubert Hurkacz had a match point, wasn’t able to use that one, either. But then Tallon Griekspoor’s fifth match point was it, 10:8.
