Daniil Medvedev has broken a barrier: The former world number one, who is seeded third in Halle and eleventh in the ATP world rankings, has won his 400th match on the ATP Tour. He defeated Frenchman Quentin Halys, currently number 48 in the world, 6:2 and 7:5. Medvedev is the first player to reach the quarter-finals of the 32nd TERRA WORTMANN OPEN.
Medvedev set an incredible pace, especially in the first set: He broke his opponent 2:1 and 5:2 in just 24 minutes and took the set 6:2, impressing with fast service games and many free points as well as strong returns. The second set was more even - until the score was 5:5. Halys fought for his service game, but Daniil Medvedev capitalised on the third break point to win the decisive game. The 2022 Halle finalist, who didn't concede a break point in the entire match, confidently served out to 7:5 after 1:06 hours.
This is the 83rd time he has reached the quarter-finals of an ATP tournament and the 13th time he has done so on grass. Medvedev also likes French players: he extended his winning streak against French players to ten. Quentin Halys, on the other hand, continues to struggle against top 20 players. His record now: 2:18.
